I was in sydney for this day. Saw the weather fax at a surf shop. Told my girlfriend the hobart race was going to get smashed. Sure did.
This was back when australia had real men in charge. and not weak hitler types like danny andrews and morrison.

Why does the navy put in so little effort ? Oh, we can't help, we need to be ready for war and play with our guns. Tax payer funded meant to protect people but sitting idle when needed.

Looks like one Skipper even spilled oil to flatten the sea around his boat judging from his smeared face, hood and storm gear. I can´t believe sailors abandoning their sailing boats even though they still float and have a working rudder. They should hove-to instead of trusting their lives to a peanut-sized unstable life raft. Bad seamanship. The abandoned yacht in the vido could´ve been fitted with a provisional improvised mast to hove-to instead of endangering the lives of SAR teams having to pick these cowards up. But I guess there´s still far too many clueless millionaires on the seas trying to win regattas at all costs causing a broken rig in the first place. They should stay home really.
