I disagree with the term "safe method" : the crew should stay in the descent, not sit on the roof. She is at risk of falling overboard doing the same manoeuvre with more wind, waves.

How'bout using the jib to shield the kite? Or even better take her down on the winward side so that yoiu don't need to go around the whole process when you'll have to fly her again on the next lee. It doesn't take much more power once you have both sails trimmed.

probably worth mentioning two people is ok up to force 3 – But 4 – 6 then you will most likeley need three plus up to 34 feet and 4 plus 34 to 40.
