Clare Francis certainly qualifies as much as Sir Francis Chichester or my RL hero Sir Robin Knox-Johnston and her rightful title should be 'Dame Clare Francis'. I remember seeing her leaving from Falmouth in 1973 on her Trans-Atlantic trip. Without meaning to be condescending in any way, I couldn't believe how tiny and pretty she was back in the day that the only blue water navigation aids you had were a sextant, a set of sight reduction tables, a chronometer and your brain.

Speaking about Peggy Bawn, words fail me to describe the emotions this Classic evokes, so I'll just tip my hat and play the video again…
