  1. I guess it really is "to each their own." You do have other options. Bimini is Ok, and certainly a place to stop, but perhaps not a place to begin? You might want to consider going to West End on Grand Bahama Island and check out Freeport and Lucaya. You would also miss Great and Little Abaco, Moore's Island, Cast-away Cay. True, some of these are smaller islands and not as much to do compared to Nassau, but the islands are much closer together. I guess the question is: are you in a hurry to see the "commercial" stuff, or are you there to soak up the beauty, the peace and tranquility of the Caribbean?
What to stock up on? Let me give you an example. Here I can buy a case of beer for $24.00, there that same case of beer is about 100 bucks. Easy to say stock up on everything, but "really" stock up on the things you really like/love.
(just my 2 cents) Welcome to the islands mon…..;)

  2. I recommend you cross over to West End and go to the Abacos. From West End go through the Indian Cay Cut and you're on the Little Bahama Bank, which is protected water, and you can anchor almost anywhere. It's like cruising with training wheels.

The Gone With the Wynns YouTube couple did the Abacos first, and it was a great way to ease into cruising.

Get the Steve Dodge book, the waypoints are spot on.

  3. Stock up on anything you like to drink, sun-downers with other cruisers is a tradition. Alcohol is very expensive in the
    the Bahamas.

  4. hey guys good to see you're planning on doing great adventures. I just got back from the Bahamas last month. We took a large catamaran across to the Grand Bahamas and then to the biminis. honeymoon Harbor was a great place to anchor for us . And I'd have to agree with all the advice they're giving you everything, sounds great there's not a lot of places to securely anchor in the Bimini Islands. We ended up dragging anchor several times at gramd bahama so make sure you got good anchor and Tackle. happy for you both and great things to come. the closing video in South Carolina was typical of most out time in the Bahamas! hope you have better weather. we also had updates maps on my phone vice the boats GPS. there were some differences.

  5. It's really good to hear it from someone who's been there before! Such nice people and good information too! Makes me think about how I want to plan my trip a little better than just checking the weather! Thanks.

  6. i love the quote "we have no plans and we are sticking to them!" I'm gonna use that when I am sailing. great video and love the information in it. my fiance and i are planning to sail to the Bahamas sometime. thanks for the info 🙂

  8. This video was very informative. I am planning a sailing trip there eventually and now I have several waypoints to continue building a route. Thanks!

  9. great tips there. I would love to make the trip. I wanna get a boat….. but I'm worried about needing to fly to the states, then stay in a hotel until I find a boat won't be economically viable.

  10. Good information, I could listen to them talk about the Bahamas for another hour! Thanks for the entertaining and informative video. Fair Winds and GOD bless, JC
