(Add 40 years and you'll have my age) After what you said, and other vids I have watched regarding this MOB…all of this begs the question what safety protocols you have in place. I get that you can't tack or jibe the boat in a NY minute but wouldn't that dictate even more of an emphasis on a locator beacon so you knew where he was. Let's say the MOB button didn't work or better yet…nobody saw him go overboard (yes it's possible) and didn't notice him missing for 1 to 2 minutes. Like arumrunner so elegantly pointed out…15 knots is 1500 feet per minute. That's 5 football fields in a NY minute! SNAP! Bottom line is…you have to know where this person is and be able to track him. And there has to be redundant systems. Maybe I didn't understand all your said or you left some things out but in my world, he's damn lucking to be alive and that you found him. They don't call the Big Blue liquid death for no reason. Under the water and unconscious for a few seconds can change everything!!! SAFETY…SAFETY…SAFETY!!! Think of the worse case scenario and tell me how you have his ass covered when he becomes a MOB! If it takes your vessel 4 mins to get on a reciprocal course, you are already a nm away from the MOB

Locating a MOB becomes a huge challenge even if you are within a couple hundred feet.

Getting a DanBouy in the water is as important as hitting MOB button as soon as ManOverBoard is yelled.

Sure hope that crewmate had a beacon on 🙂
