I just started my IYT skipper course. This sim is really helpful. I don't have any sailing experience yet (well, 2 hours, it doesn't count anyway) to tell how accurate it is, but if real life docking is anything like in the sim, then it's not as dreadful as I thought:)

Liked and subscribed, then I bought it. I've always loved the water and boats, especially sailing boats. The last boat I had was an Irwin 44 center cockpit, and she was a pretty good little boat. I bought her used, cheap, and storm damaged back in the 80s. I had to sell her in the late 90s, miss that boat. Anyhow, as an old gamer and game modder, this looks awesome, I'm big into sims (Farming Simulator being one), and will be trying this out this weekend.

Is eSail moddable? And by that I mean can you create your own maps/seaways or boats? For instance in Trucking Simulator, both American and Euro, you can create new routes or highways if you have the right tools to do so, and this is submitted, and if approved by the community it's added to the game/sim as a downloadable mod. These are actual real-world sections of America or Europe/UK created from satellite, GPS, and Topo map data. I also create, using tools like Maya and 3DMax, Tractors, trucks, cars, planes, tanks, and whatever I need for the game being modded. I ask because from what I just briefly scanned on the website, eSail seems to be still under development.

Have to say that this is the most accurate sailing simulator out there. The tutorials in the sim enabled me to learn the theory basics, which I applied in my real-life sailing introductory course. Just wish there were also sailing dinghies instead of just powered boats.

If you have any interest in learning to sail or simply like a good computer simulation, this is excellent. I'm not a gamer of any description (but I am a sailor) and I found it very intuitive and realistic. It helped me prepare for my Day Skipper Practical so I am now fully qualified. A fun, valuable resource.
