What is so crazy is the fearlessness of these soldiers. It’s mind boggling. Maybe because so many knew so little. Or maybe because they knew something and didn’t care. Really, it’s unimaginable.

Interesting about the ground being hot.
I remember my grandfather telling me about the ground being hot on the volcanic islands. He never told me what islands he was on, but this is the first person I've heard talk about that besides my grandfather. Of course my grandpa was in the army not the Marines. He never said anything about what he did . I just know his tombstone says U.S. army, World War II veteran, Pacific 1944-45
