sounds like you are not getting the amount of 'prop steer' that you are used to. probably something wrong. not the same rpm at the prop as you used to get at the crank. wrong transmission?

The mechanic should definitely have informed you of the difference in replacement to another gearbox. He should know better. But it is not unusual to make short and long so-called kicks with the engine. But it undoubtedly gives the experience that you have lost some horsepower. Maybe another propeller can make a difference – but not a knowledgeable solution I have. I understand your despair and I hope the so-called professional mechanic has been very humble when it comes to billing.

I've just started watching from the first episode after seeing this episode. Really impressed how you have come on and it is so nice seeing you both working and enjoying the experience. I am about to buy a Moody 346 so makes great viewing not only to see the boat in action but how you deal with the issues. Keep it up and live the dream.

Its been a lot of weeks since the boat was out of the slip and you are getting near the end of useful lifespan for your bottom paint. My first hunch s is that the prop and/or bottom is fouled.
If that is not the case, my second theory is that given the misaligned output shaft height, its possible this transmission has a different gear ratio. As others have said, that would necessitate changing the prop or getting the correct replacement for (or rebuild of) the original transmission. .

If that is not the case, my third theory has to do with the fuel delivery problem that the boat seemed to have previously. You even may have the two problems above, and still have this problem as well.

Lastly, you seem to have a problem getting confused about the rudder angle and its possible that you were just not steering as much as you thought that you were or that there was an external issue like current causing what you experienced.

Afterthought: If the new trans' output gear ratio is different, your prop rpms are also different, as is your torque on the shaft. If everything is working correctly (e.g. cable adjustments, motor etc) and you have engine rpms at spec, then you may have to adjust your prop's pitch. Pitch, gear ratio, and rpms are all interconnected.

Is throttle cable adjusted correctly, so you can 'kick' the boat into a spin turn? Is prop a feathering prop, and if so, is it fouled or binding? that'll totally upset your reverse response.
