The lake on San Miguel is used for hydroelectricity. Power is made as the water flows downhill from the crater and the same water is pumped back up to the reservoir using only 20% of the power it originally produced…. it allows the island to be net zero with no fossil fuels used to produce electricity…. you can find a great documentary about it on YouTube … just an FYI for anyone interested
