My grandparents owned one of these when I was a kid! I have some great memories sailing on it. Theirs was ketch rigged, but aside from that was nearly identical to the one in the video. The enclosed pilothouse was really nice in a thunderstorm.

Most boats made from 1981 until 1987 are going to be just junk . The market crash was in 1980 and the manufacturers all went cheap on everything .

I like that one. Nice layout, good storage, love the pilot house, needs work but I like it.
If I had the money I'd buy it right then and there.

Same boat as the Ted Brewer Pan Oceanic. Just looked at one in Florida that was $20k. Is was thrashed though. Awesome boats.

The thing with all these taiwan boats, is you have to dig into the guts of the boat, and ignore the pretty furniture… many early choey lee glass boats had serious blister problems… you have to look at how the bulk heads are tabbed to the hull , how the systems were built, at the through hulls, the piping and wiring… especially at the decks and house construction. wood decks and poorly encapsulated cores in "glass:" decks can be rotten. What looks like solid glass often isn't…so every top side fitting is a potential source of leaks, and soggy cores. Plus.. the Costs Increase with the Square or the Cube of the Boat Size… so unless you can afford to keep a good 42 footer… you surely cant afford to keep and upgrade a bad one. One the other hand.,… IF you know what the fuck you are doing, (which essentially means you could survey the thing yourself and not get any big surprises) and have cash resources and time.. there are many neglected boats to be had at a fraction of the market price for a good one. Question is how many years and how many skills do you have to put to the test ? If you are being led around by the nose by rosy cheeks and perky tits.. you are doomed.

The tours are a nice opportunity for us to see the yachts, but you are not knowledgeable. To be honest it would be better to go round with either the sales agent or the owner. Just sayin' as your comments are pretty worthless.
