It does remind me that maybe I over rely on technology. My boat has its own GPS system but I prefer the Navionics App on my phone. That App is the best investment I ever made for sailing. I've never had to sail in fog without GPS, AIS and radar. Even with all that I came closer to a fishing boat than i would have preferred. I now periodically use my radar in good conditions just to stay familiar with it. But without it I think my strategy would be to use the Navionics and keep away from the shore until I turned to go in. I can see my radar from the cockpit, I often sail alone and if it even starts to get a bit foggy the radar does give me some comfort.
