Este accesibil prin Aeroportul Girona, la o oarecare distanţă spre nord. Până în anul 1500 primele case au fost construite extra-muros pentru a găzdui creșterea populației. Acest proces a fost foarte accelerat în secolele al XVII-lea și al XVIII-lea, modelând o configurație urbană care urma să rămână practic neschimbată până la apariția turismului de masă în anii 1950.
