The Laser 4000 is still a beast of a boat for those wanting to go really fast on a shoestring. We bought an old one for £1500 and had many years of crazy fast sailing out of it. They are quite heavy but that gives them a robustness that makes them last.
In strong winds on a 3 sail sail reach they are an amazing experience.

5:03. My friend Richard's Enterprise and mine (18070 and 2560) have spinnakers, as is considered within the class rules in the US. His has a trapeze, too---not in the rules. One day for a brief starboard tack reach I singlehanded his boat from the trapeze with the spinnaker. It was bit of a challenge to get the kite up (rigged for a crew to do that) and a bit of a thrill when she planed. Thanks for the memory.

How much wind will that hike seat catch,I wonder? Could it pitch you forward hard enough to clear the mast? I don't like going face first into a mast so I'm curious.
