You are obviously an excellent and very experienced captain – who I’m sure would be sought after if you chose to move on. But it would be interesting to explore (or get tips on) the dynamics between less experienced captains and owners, or inexperienced owners in terms of how to attract and evaluate a good captain, or perhaps how to deal with more domineering owners. The owner tells the captain what he wants and it's up to the captain to find out how to meet those expectations safety and legally. End of the day the captain is responsible for the safety of the crew/ guest and its better to be fired than to have your certs pulled/ legal action

as far as i'm concerned the captain is in charge. I would ask for various things, but leave final decisions to the captain as he is responsible for the boat and everybodys lives

If I had a yacht, I'd keep one thing in mind at all times. Owning it doesn't mean I know how to run it. I hired professionals for a reason, let them do their thing so I can just enjoy owning a yacht.
Of course, I'll never own a yacht. I get hideously seasick, which sucks because I love yachts and boats. Also, nowhere near the money for it.

Captain is in charge of the safety of the vessel and the passengers/crew. This must be in the employment contract. But there is a fine line between safety and comfort! There is also a fine line between crew competence and owner’s expectations. I would guess a Force 7 is not going to jeopardise safety of the vessel like AWOL but it would make the passengers nauseous!

I'm sure the owner of the vessel calls the shots but why would you hire a capt if you weren't going to defer to them in matters pertaining to the boat and the crew?

it also may depend where the boat is. owner on shore and capt in the water.

You can’t force your accountant to break the tax laws for you, your doctor to give you a medically incorrect treatment or get your lawyer to help you break the law. You can fire them (literally or just by taking your business elsewhere), but they should maintain a level of professional integrity - and if you’re smart you should listen to them.

Thereis a question I would like to ask…Reagrding Annual Surveys of various types…? Do these have to be carried out at the vessels usual home port..? I would assume not, since there are cases , perhaps quite a few, where vessels are away from home port, for extended periods, like on a "world cruise" for example…??
