The sunken boat story: I don't know exactly, apparently (from what I've heard, and that's like, 5 layers of hearsay) it was someone who decided to take a shortcut and ignore the markers, ran aground, and wasn't insured so couldn't get it towed off without spending a lot of money, so they just abandoned the boat there. Over the years (and it has been there for a very, very long time it seems) it has sunk into the sand until only the masts and some other bits and bobs are sticking up out of the water.
Sailing Magic Carpet has an episode from a few years ago about that sunken boat. It has been there a very long time. sorry I don't know how to post the link.
