  1. I really got a good appreciation for all the interior work you have done on Athena. Don’t know if it is different camera angles but the interior of the boat looks pretty dang spiffy. Very nice work.

  2. I like gadgets too, but this is starting to look like a set from a Steven King movie. ;-). That said unlike you, I’m technically illiterate.

  3. That miniature city was a hoot. I can’t imagine the hours spent building all those exhibits. Thanks for taking us on the tour.

  4. Hey Mads.. re fishing. I suggest you learn from the best cruising sailor fisherman on YouTube. Troy, on the channel 'Free Range Sailing'.

  5. Hi Mads, I'm glad I'm being able to get back into what she again I'm glad you got Ava with you now. I remember the first time I saw Ava she was sanding on the bottom of your boat and she didn't have much more hair than you did I'm glad to see that at least one of you can grow hair. I am just the opposite of you, I have no problem whatsoever with anything outdoors. I hunt, fish, skydive, scuba dive, ride motorcycles, race dirt track cars, of course sail, but in probably the most illiterate person when it comes to computers and technology.

  6. re the screen mount, I would mount it on a swivel arm that goes higher (so you won't hurt your neck) and fold back low for when you're sailing.
While you are in the Netherlands, please please go to a 'friettent' and get some 'patat met' and a 'kroket' (eat with mustard)… number one thing I eat when I visit my 2nd half country.

  7. Hi, I'm an engineer planning to sail the world while working here and there. For storage and backup I thought to use an conventional Synology Station which can also serve as a movie and audio storage and player. Could you explain why you chose the fusion system and the Apple TV? Seems pretty expensive to me. For playing the music on my analog amplifier at home I'm using a Teufel Raumfeld. Do you see any disadvantages on my solution? We are going to work with PCs on board, no laptops for noise and performance reasons. To extend the life span of the PC and the Syno we might have them in a separate air conditioned compartment where only little salt gets in.

  8. The Paravan is outstanding. We’ve caught fish with that so many times, hardly ever fails.

  9. Wow Eva, Thanks for taking me on a revisit to Madurodam. I served in the US Army in the 70's and 80's
and I was posted to West Germany for three years. Whenever I could wangle a four day Pass I would try and take a trip somewhere. I decided one weekend to take a Bus Tour to Amsterdam. No, it was not for the Hash Brownies.

I may have mentioned all this in a previous posting but one of my favorite places we visited was Madurodam.
I am sure they must have updated it since i visited in the early 80s. Did it still have the Harbor with the big oil tanker that caught fire and the hoses on the mini fireboats put it out? I think there was an airport too with moving airliners.
It was too bad you had to go see it alone.

They did not have those cool interactive exhibits when I was there. By the way I bought those same mini shoes. They are a small sample of Delft porcelain I believe. I bought mine at the Delft Museum in Amsterdam.

  10. I think your best bet for the extra remote is in the cockpit. If you need to pause the music mid-sail to get someone's attention that's inside, it's a lot easier to reach for a dedicated button instead of trying to get to the right screen on the chartplotter or get your phone out.

    Just a thought.

  11. @mads, I have a iKommunicate NMEA to Signal K gateway that I never got around to fitting and i've since sold the Boat. Do you want it? im in the UK so can pop it in the post.

  12. I smile everytime when in your intro you say "somewhat an extensive refit". Anyone familiar with your YouTube would say that the term "Somewhat" doesn't even come close to the reality. 😆

  13. Hey Mads and Ava – let us know if you want to visit Cardiff. We're sailors from the Netherlands (Madurodam is definitely a blast from the past), living in Wales. We keep our boat in Holland but happy to show you around Cardiff and let you know good places to stay/anchor/moor up in Wales.

  14. So Mads, what happened to the DIY generator with the itty-bitty Perkins? -and the dryer portion of your washer dryer combo? I am also guessing that since you are now in the UK, Ava's visa extension didn't come through? I know; lots of questions… 🙂

  15. I look forward to your weekly videos like I used to with normal TV shows!

One note from the viewer side of the computer. Since I dont really know what day of the week it is, saying you will stay at a place until Friday isnt as easy to process as saying something like "For three more days" not a big deal just a thought!
    Thanks for the content!

  16. The tour was great Ava. I love your short hair cut from a few years ago. Mads, I've been watching you get Athena ready for years, it is wonderful to see her in action. Well done. Thanks for letting us in on the process.

  17. Another good video, guys! Soooo… Mads, does that gap in the portlite trim frame bug you like it does me? Will you be visiting the yard where Athena was built to get a new one?

  18. Oh and also, thought it was funny how the two narratives ignored the other. I thought you were going to do some sort of Seinfeld ending tying them together at the end! 🤷🏻‍♂ Also, can the monitor telescope up a bit to reduce neck strain?

  19. With all the talk of small things and mini clogs……perhaps Athina may be cooking up a small crew member ? ? ? Would that be a Mini Me Mads MMM CHEERS AND FAIR WINDS Steve h.

  20. Made purchase a couple flashers to put about 4 feet ahead of the fishing lure your using, the flashers will attract the fish to your lures and give the lures a jerking motion like the lure is something alive swimming. That triangle piece is a diver you put ahead of your flasher and lure to make it dive deeper in the water when your trolling it behind your boat. You should invest in one of the new braided fishing lines that have a small diameter but I high breaking strength.
