Nick, I learned to tie the bowline so that the bitter end is not in the "eye" of the knot. The way you presented the bowline is used at rock climbing. If you bitter end is outside the "eye" it will not scrub on something ... Take care and have a good one.

Hey Nick. Ive owned a yacht for 10 years, and you've just converted me to the 'on a bight' part of the clove hitch. Nice. Thanks. And One for you maybe?. When I introduce the bowline to a new crew, I tell them to remember 'top to'. Most people who know the rabbit/hole thing dont immediately see that hole has to be the right way up. And not everybody does the wrist twist method in the same direction. So I get them to pause and look at the loop, part way through tying. Looking towards the bollard (or jib clew), the loop needs to be 'top to' - that is, the top of the loop heading 'towards' the bollard. Then the rabbit does its thing properly. Important for me, when they have to secure the long lining and I have to remain at the helm, and I can trust them. That tip goes back to my very first instructor. Try it. Tell me if that helps (not you, but new crew).

I like the ninja bowline, the imitation slippery bowline and the eskimo bowline. To tie the eskimo bowline I bring the line clockwise around the object that I'm tying to, then I use the overhand flip method to tie it. And I mostly tie it with a quick release. I also like the modified siberian hitch, the quick release buntline hitch and the bull hitch. And the bull hitch is related to the rebeck knot.
