Looks like the chute just deploys automatically. Is there a setting to manually deploy it?

Have any sailors played this? Can someone comment on how reasonable it is as something to get through the off-season ?

Zig-zag : tacking or "beating" upwind. That was a "start" of the race, but you know that , good sailing though for "amateur".. this is better sailing than most people can do! I'm stoked to see this is actually a legit tool. I can't imagine if I had this when I raced instead of only practicing a couple times a week!
