Sea sickness:

I spent 9-years in the coast guard, 3 of which was spent on a 140’ ice breaking tug boat; that we used to take through some heavy storms. I was one of the very few people who never got sea sick.

One of the rules of being a sailor is to never get sea sick, so these are the secrets I kept primarily to be able to make fun of everyone else who got sea sick :

1) saltine crackers: Start eating them before you expect seas, they swell in your stomach and keep things from sloshing around. The salt keeps you thirsty so you’re constantly drinking water and keeping your stomach full. Just like baffles in the fuel tank.

2) ear buds below deck: Listen to music, audio books, etc. The vibrations keep your fluids moving in your inner ear; counters some of the slosh. I’d put ear muffs over them.

3) polarized sunglasses: probably most important for you!! Your eyes are constantly dancing around and trying to adjust to the glair. You will always get sea sick without polarized sun glasses. Even in the rain. I had polarized regular glasses as well for night. This makes a massive difference.

4) monster energy drink, white cans: The vitamin B12 and bubbles keeps you alert and gives your body the attentiveness to respond to the moving water.

5) no Dramamine: or if you have to, use the childrens chewable. The negative effects are not worth it; and make you want to sleep, the more time you spend being able to see the horizon, the better.

6) more saltines; before you get sea sick your mouth will start salivating more, keep eating the saltines and dry it all up first.

Another tip for underway meals that are sea sick proof:
-cup of microwave Mac and cheese.
-mix in broken up wheat things and tuna.

Similar concept to the saltines but the tuna allows you to harness the power of the sea

The science behind the above is just my best guess about why it works;but I sailed over 50,000 miles at sea, through tons of storms, and I’m the only person I know who has never even gotten remotely sea sick… and I did it by following the above.

One of the rules of being a sailor is to never get sea sick, so these are the secrets I kept primarily to be able to make fun of everyone else who got sea sick 😂:

1) saltine crackers: Start eating them before you expect seas, they swell in your stomach and keep things from sloshing around. The salt keeps you thirsty so you’re constantly drinking water and keeping your stomach full. Just like baffles in the fuel tank.

6) more saltines; before you get sea sick your mouth will start salivating more, keep eating the saltines and dry it all up first.

Another tip for underway meals that are sea sick proof:
-cup of microwave Mac and cheese.
-mix in broken up wheat things and tuna.

Similar concept to the saltines but the tuna allows you to harness the power of the sea 😂

The only way I'd ever go out on the ocean is on an AIRCRAFT CARRIER. The thing that attracts me is seeing something, anything cool being made constructed by a man, men by hands given birth by an idea or DREAM. I've never been able to make something like a house or a real boat or a car. I don't do well with exploratory surgery and I really wish I could but I worry too much about details not being right. I see here how much I miss out because of that. I like to be taught correctly exactly how everything is done. I've always said if I'm given step by step instructions I can do anything. That's why I loved the ARMY. AND I WILL MASTER THAT TASK THAT IS TAUGHT ME BY THE NUMBERS. BUT I ALWAYS WISH I WAS THE PERSON LIKE THESE GUYS, THE GUYS THAT CAN JUST DO IT FROM SCRATCH. I SALUTE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU.
