What do you think of the Nordhavn 56MS? Should Nordhavn build more sailing motor yachts? Let us know in the comments below, and don't forget to like and subscribe! We appreciate it.
the best of trawlers fused with excellent characteristics of sailboats… an excellent work of naval engineering
I think the same design and proportions but with 2 more feet of LWL (55´) in the stern where the lazarette is and 2 or 3 more feet of mast. It would be perfect, it would increase the hydrodynamics, the performance of sailing only under sail, greater fuel capacity, greater transport capacity in the lazarette, and more
I don’t see a 3rd stateroom
An 80 footer would have made its mark, and a saleable mark it will be. The 56MS is too small for a motor sailing vessel. Too much "stuffed" into a good design, a design for a trawler only.
On the other hand, to invest in the capital needed to build a 80 foot motor sailing vessel, is a risky leap. Adding living space, lounging space, causal space and more, requires a lot of input from those who sail… NOT the trawler crowd.
The 56M never took off in sales. They were hoping to build a 68 footer next if the 56 took off. They have some preliminary drawings for the 68.
Nice boat maybe a 65’ little more leg room
Great boat, if I could, I'd buy one in a heartbeat, all they have to do is work on their hull colours, what do you call this one, pastel baby puke yellow?
I'm a full yachtie that owns a launch..I think this MS is perfect. I'd like captive winches controlled from the pilothouse & a cutter rig for heavy weather.
I love the N56MS.
If you watch the video's of N56 Migaloo you will see that she has spent so much time at sea, mainly under sail, and crossed oceans. She also gets 50% better economy when under motor than her N55 non sail compradre.
I love this boat!!!
The predecessor to this was the N46MS. The N46 was the first Nordhavn motor trawler and I think they built four motor sailer's and I also did read of one shipwrecked N46 in the Philippines that was salvaged and converted to a motor sailer!
The only thing that stood out is "Modest sailing ability" so it needs 30 knts of wind to move?
I like shorter but in between would be better. I like it & no price, looking for liveable so of course this is size, & a style ect.. to consider. So hope you consider comment!
I WANT ONE,, she's a sweetie
It would be a nice idea for a 100foot sailing yacht
I love this boat!
100 ft would be perfect 🎉
Sailing???
I always liked this boat, had a couple of times to sail on one. I thought it was a good sailing boat, however I would have liked a little bigger one, say 60-70 footer, I enjoy ocean sailing and like having more space than the 56MS offered. Thanks for the memories!
Her ballast ratio is 18.5% a decent offshore sailboat is 35+ I would not be happy in Big following or Beam seas in this boat, where are sea berths when heeled I really like the concept, however it neither fish nor fowl
