Flettner rotor 'sails' are pretty interesting. Sometimes called a magnus rotor. You should look at those. While they don't necessarily solve using fossil fuel for combustion, they do in fact cut down on the amount you would have to use. Are they unseemly and mess up the sleek sexy lines of a Nuvolari Lenard or Donald Starkey? Absolutely, but could be a design by Bhusan Powar Design who designed the Zion Black Hole concept yacht or the designer for Lattittude yachts that did the gold 79M trimaran design (forget his name, apologies). They could certainly come come up with a design concept around them. Maybe even figure out how to power them with clean energy. Certainly something to look at and they have been and are still in use today.

The problem with electric boats of course is you are burning fossil fuels to get the power to the boat. So in some ways, it's no,different than the hybrid system on some yachts like Bering and Baglietto(sp). The diesel generator is burning to make power for the electric generator to power the engine. Although in Bering's case, they have solar panels. I think hydrogen is the next wave, but honestly I see a system being developed where regular sea water is taken on and the hydrogen oxygen bond is split, and both elements burned as fuel to power generators. The problem of course in splitting them is that they become lethal gases so that is something to overcome as well. Gellified saltwater to use as ionic engine fuel has appeared is science fiction books for years now. There are ionic engines powering satellites, but they produce little thrust. I think the combination of solar and wind(sails) are the best cleanest option. If they made solar panel sails, that would be amazing.

Electric boat with Lithium batteries are incredibly dangerous and stupid. If you suffer a battery fire they're basically unstoppable. They'll end up like turbine boats, virtually uninsurable. Who wants 5-7 figure toy that you can't ensure, you'd be better off gambling with penny stocks. Plus most these boat runs for less than a half day at speed.

You'll never power a large yacht off solar and dreams. Any yacht that needs to be at sea for days or weeks will be ran off of fuel.

"Hydrogen is a clean fuel"
No, it's not. It is not a point source emitter, true. But producing hydrogen is about a dirty as it is possible to be. Most hydrogen is produced by steam reformation of natural gas. It produces lots of nasty waste. It's technically possible to produce hydrogen by electrolysis of water but that requires prodigious quantities of electricity that we simply don't have.
