It was a smart idea to use a water pump to replace the engine pump.

In the future, tie the dingy along side, then you can steer with the main rudder.
Tacking doesn't automatically take more time from point to point as sometimes the tacking speed is significantly faster and makes up for the added distance. I does take human energy, and can be difficult to sustain for long distances on your own.

Great work around, Huub! I don't think i would have thought of using a water pressure pump! Mind blown! It would be a good idea to keep a spare water pump, alternator, and starter, and different size belts, just in case this happens, have the belt so you could still spin the alternator bypassing the water pump, and also the size to still spin the water pump if the alternator locks up! Just a thought! Keep living the dream!

Hey Huub you made a plan ,as we like to say in South Africa:-) You know everything that goes wrong is such a learning experience ..was thinking how about you rig up a way of maybe using your dingy motor to move your boat through the reefs when the main engine packs up for whatever reason…just a thought! It may be time to pull in a port and get your land legs going for a while. you avoided danger so long, and its just to the point where the boat engine and stress points need an overhaul. You have done amazing things, but I worry about your safety man. Its getting close to throwing in the towel on Limonada sir. you struggle so hard. we worry bout ya. stay safe dude. for real.

Hey Huub, I hope you are well. If you have your health you are a millionaire many times over.
I was saying about the Shurflo pump "That'll never work, I don't know why Huub's bothering", but I am delighted to say I was spectacularly wrong!!! Congratulations mate on adapting and overcoming in the best traditions of the Dutch Navy.
I wonder if one day you might be able to give us an overview of a) your entire solar system, and b) your water system? Maybe also your communication and electrical devices too.
I look forward so much to your videos and am forever curious about your day to day living as, although I am at the opposite end of the age-scale, I will be moving onboard my 50+ year old Halcyon 27' and heading south till the butter melts (you know that lovely old saying!). Currently I am refurbishing it from top to bottom, and then I will have to learn the rudiments of sailing.
I was surprised at the $150 permit to cruise the islands of the Bahamas. Does that include any other hidden benefits? Apropos of nothing in particular, but what is the punishment for not checking into a country? I know you yourself wouldn't but there must be cruisers who don't bother.
I wonder what makes it 'not drinkable' water? It would be interesting to amalyse it under a microscope to see if it's much different to what is often described as 'potable' water.

Glad you fix the engine problem, but….You have 2 outboards and a dinghy, why not use them? Tie the dinghy to the side of the boat and you can easily tow your boat to a safe anchorage.
You should also consider mounting an outboard bracket on the transom and use one of your outboards as a spare engine, they work really well and all you need is a throttle extension and the bracket of course.
It’s really an indispensable item on a boat with a unreliable old engine and I don’t understand why more sailors use it. Fair winds.

For the cost of materials and the weight of an alberg 30 if I were you I'd seriously consider making a sculling oar. You could move the boat with little or no wind under your own power. Think about it.
