Testarea lui Max Cruise Hybrid (MJ Sailing - Ep 249) #electrichybrid #hybridengine

S-a vorbit mult despre propulsia hibridă. 1. With a hybrid system, in 6 years from now either the components to repair it would be unavailable or prohibitively expensive. There is a reason cars from the 60's are still around, but try and find a spare part to fix something made in the 90's or 2000's.

  2. Hybrid marine could do a lot worse that consider sponsoring M&J with a nice new hybrid set up. Although that may give Matt some complication with engine beds.

  3. If you are environmentally aware, and able to live a yacht based life the cost negatives are insignificant. So step up and do what you know is the right thing and go electric.

  4. Really really nice explanation of hybrid systems, I really like the idea of generating while underway from the prop. Seems like that could lower the diesel fuel costs on long trips. Was thinking that it would be cool if there was a physical "aux" in/out to the generator, for wind(blades/kites)/pedal power/gas engine/…, perhaps then run in reverse for pump(water/air)/blender/bow thruster/tools/air compressor/washing/…

  5. It still freaks me out to see the difference between my tour with the US Army in 1668/69 and the modern era. I never could imagine it would be like this.

  6. Regarding the imptoved risk mitogation that Matt mentioned. Will the boat have tvo sets of battery banks, and can they, if needed, be isolated from each other?

  7. Matt, in case of lightning strike, you need spring starter on each engine. Not many engines have provision for one!
Best wishes from the far North.

  8. Modern diesels usually have electronic controls, so wouldn't a lightning strike take out the diesel computer anyway? That is, unless you are carrying a complete, replacement engine computer. One of the precepts of engineering is "keep it simple stupid," which means only make things as complex as they need to be and no more complex. It seems to me like they are adding complexity to the system.

  9. Welcome to Vietnam … again! It's an amazing hybrid system setup. Are you planning to install solar panels on your board to charge the battery and run the appliances?

  10. Enjoying watching your build. System looks very interesting. Last thing I want to do when on the water is get on my knees to look though the wheel to see the displays! Terrible execution of all dash displays. Come on you can do better!

  12. Interesting looking Hybrid system, with good explanation. Looking forward to hearing about the latest modifications to you build.

  13. Was looking forward to this Hybrid Drive system video. Clicked with anticipation and was not disappointed. Systems was clearly explained with diagrams and pictures.

The Parallel Hybrid Drive System seems like it is a Prius which is basically a Combustion engine with an electric motor assist with minuscule battery and a very complicated system and a pain to repair. As opposed to the Full Electric system (Series drive) which can be charged with either solar or generator which seems like the more reliable and system to me. I've always tell people the Prius is a scam. no mechanic likes touching it, overly complicated, and no gain in anything. Its mostly an engine. Either go all engine or all electric is what i tell people when they ask for car advice and i feel the same way about boats. There are some full electric boats that have kept a generator on board which they found they never had to even use because the batteries were kept well charged with their solar and they ditched engine. Also some electric drive system lets you turn each individual propeller 360 degrees for an extreme maneuverability as well as point the props forward to generate electricity back into the batteries. A full electric drive system is extremely expensive and not economical in todays battery costs. Even the mass produced Tesla batteries are having a hard time bringing cost down. A plain simple combustion engine on either side is the most simple and economical choice for todays boats. A hybrid system, is just plain to much unnecessary complications.
