I think the best thing you can do is go ahead and do a few bareboat charters after you've gotten the training behind you. Make sure you get the extra insurance rider, so you are not totally petrified of hurting something, then just get out there and do it. You learn so much more so fast when you are out there actually sailing and living aboard.

Simon, your energy is wonderful, and experience obvious. One thing I think u might know is you always sound bunged up. I had a nose surgery after being uncomfortable forays and after 6months I am breathing and sleeping much better! Keep up the the enthusiasm.

I crewed on Britican for a couple of months, I can not explain how much I learned from that experience.
And I was a pretty seasoned sailor before that.
Oh and very important they are the nicest people I've ever met.
