Lovely yachts.

My needs are for two separate yachts, preferably the Garcia 60 Exploration yacht or a 103ft Trehard with an aluminum hull, a centerboard, a ketch rig-configuration, and twin engines, rudders and screws for sailing on my own with minimal crew and an expedition yacht with a hangar for a helicopter and a small submarine or amphibious vehicle, like the Alucia or Itasca.

Any sailing yacht with an aluminum hull, a centerboard and twin engines, rudders, and screws should be able to go anywhere.

Any expedition yacht with a draft in excess of 16ft, depending on the height and weight of the superstructure, to counter the capsizing moment created by a displaced center of gravity, should also be able to go anywhere.

Whereas an aluminum hull for sailing yachts is stronger than a steel hull of the same weight , except for the points at which it is welded, you still need a steel hull for motor yachts because of the large electric currents that can wreck the hull. For an expedition yacht, at the very least, I'd need hangars for a helicopter and a small submarine or amphibious vehicle and the ability to refuel an amphibious aircraft to truly explore distant shores from the yacht. A steel construction or minimal ice-plating of 3 or 2C suffices because I'd need ice-breaker assistance for serious ice-breaking, anyway, so why burden the yacht with needless plating, providing it can survive accidental impact with floating debris and ice. Thermal imagers, sonars, and radars can help me avoid serious icebergs.

A yacht generally consumes 25 gallons for every 500 HP, so the major cost of operating a yacht is its fuel consumption, unless the intent is to park at the marina for partying.

I believe 50 to 100 gallons/hour is quite reasonable because that translates into $12,000/day in fuel. The Alucia would consume around 150 to 300 GPH, but even that keeps the running cost of fuel below $30,000/day, which isn't excessive.

It isn't the cost that bothers me, but my own solvency. If I can charter a yacht for $100K to $400K/day, I wouldn't really care how much it cost, but if I can't, then it has to be long-term viable.

Crews are generally quite cheap--$75K to 100K for the captain, $60K to $70K for the first mate and $30,000K for deck hands.

The cost of insurance and management can be around 10% of the cost of the yacht. Food and wine shouldn't exceed a couple of thousand dollars/day.

I need a large saloon, a reasonable sundeck with a shallow pool, a sky-lounge for the cold regions, and a fly-bridge with a Jacuzzi for partying.

As for the interior, I prefer a blend of stone(marble, granite or ceramic tiles) for low maintenance, wood for a touch of class and insulation, metal and glass for the highlights, and leather, again, for minimal maintenance effort. Fabrics and rugs I wouldn't mind for party yachts, but are best kept at a minimal just to break the monotony for truly expedition yachts.

Aside from that, I'd want a comfortable owner's room with a desk and seating for 6. I would also want an office-cum library. The other state rooms can be reasonably sized, so the other guests spend most of the time outside their rooms.

For an expedition yacht, I'd like to have small glass windows because of safett concerns, as one can encounter very large waves in the Southern Ocean and the north Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic oceans, whereas, for the tropics, I'd want to maximize the use of glass and windows for the views and the breezes. For a multiple-purpose yacht, one has to arrive at delicate balance of the two.

I'm not sure, but I think Ocean 7, previously, was a 103ft Trehard sailing yacht.

I like how all whirlpool spas you see, Danilo, are always pointed out as "Jacuzzi" and pronounced with an Italian flair....it's like if all cars are Ferrari! It would be nice to see more yachts in future. Your presentation skills seem to transfer outside real estate very well. Ciao
