Gaining traction with the rural approach of "one step at a time". Congrats to having Mr Doyle interested in the Arabella project. Quite the ennoblement of Your efforts and achievements so far I'd say. And quite the ennoblement of Your future plans, too, given his remark about "…didn't want to become a part of these people going around…" . With the Falcon project (which I followed closely) they showed a very unique, out of the box approach to "weird" ideas without ruling out any option just for its weirdness. Great step towards probably one of the most manageable "Ingrids" with traditional looks ever built so far. Thanks for sharing!
That 1 1/4" T track will work great for you. Lots of options on cars, slides, pin stops (depending on track) & high load capabilities.
When it is finally on the water… take a black and white photo on a day with some clouds. Think Ansel Adams. Then post process it with some sepia effect. Probably can do this all in the digital realm. The sails full of air and the boat slightly healed is a beautiful sight.
If you're happy thinking a little outside the box and want a different take on a gaff rig (perhaps even a little more modern) then it may be worth your while researching the "Wharram wing sail". It would be interesting to hear what Mr Doyle says about that!

That was amazing. You guys did a great thing easing us into the “this is not going to be an old fashion rig”. I wasn’t sure that would go down smoothly but here we are! I am an old man now but one day, I will see Arabella. I am very, very proud to be a Patreon and will keep believing that one day I will meet you guys.
Will not the track interfere with the gaff jaws? Seems silly to put tracks on a gaff rig? Ive never seen it before.

I think you should put a dynarig on it since Doyle knows how to do it.
He's got a picture of a DynaRig'd boat on his wall (behind him). That's the Black Pearl, I believe. It's the coolest, newest sail rig development in quite a while. It's great for single-handed sailing, but Acorn to Arabella is probably too small to use it. BUT, you should definitely read about the Black Pearl and the Maltese Falcon. I wonder if Mr. Doyle was involved in that system?

I love that Robbie Doyle not only wants to do the sails, but added in a topsail to his plan for the sheets. I hope we get to see plenty of footage covering the track system for the sails of you decide to go that way. I have yet to see a track system for sails. It sounded like they are inlaid rather than surface mounted, did I hear that right? Sounds like a great guy for building the spare as well. I hope we can get some links to some videos of their work on their parts of the build too. I really didn't expect all of this farming out of so much work, but hey, when specialists volunteer because they believe in a project, it really is the smart move to accept. I completely understand your choices on these items. You set out to build a boat yourself, and you are doing that. These systems are much less risk built by professionals. Less stress on you as you learn to sail your home built boat if they are professionally built. You still built the boat itself. I am so darned proud of you, Steve. Helpers and crew mates have come and gone, but you have stuck to this project. Kudos!

Absolutely go with tracks and carts. It will make sailing that thing so much easier. That is a lot of sails to work with
Please first learn how to properly sail and how a modern boat works… The questions about tracks vs hoops proves it… You put all this work into building this boat yet you do not even know what is advantageous or is antiquated and could be done better… The way this is headed you will end up with a boat that is a hodgepodge and fantasy idea of a non sailor of what a boat should be…
I really like the combination of those two working together to come up with a complete rig. Not sure if I saw Keith wince when Robbie said make a hollow mainmast, but like he was saying before you visited the sail loft, minimizing your weight aloft is key.
You guys were talking about which cart goes before which horse, but you do have the hull lines and scantlings, and your complete rig has to serve that.

This is fantastic. From a technical perspective, a lot of it was a bit over my non-sailor head, but I know there were some questions about how everything to do with the sails was going to fall into place. So good to see a plan develop. It gives me hope for some of the things I'm working on myself.

Would it be advisable to make the mizzen a triangular sail to save the weight of the gaff spar? I have seen similar rigs. Anyway, always a treat to see your videos.
