For grinding out hair line cracks in gelcoat a cone grinding stone with a rounded point is best. Search for "silverline cone grinding stone" and you will see one.

How about using a router to cut some slots in the keel easier to dry it out and possibly easier to fill again with wood strips resin and glass ? good luck

What a difference something is. Just by giving it a coat of paint looking good would you give them a coat of lacquer to reduce any scratching?
