Sailing Safar Ep5 – The Gateway To Adventure (Solo Sailing Lagos – Gibraltar)

Change of plans, change of course, from a beating to a perfect point of sail. That's what it's all about !

  • Paul Merrick

Another great episode, thanks. Enjoyed watching the course change decision unfold, weighing up pros and cons of the various options, and pleasure of reaching vs taking a beating..Camera work captures all this so well. Looking forward to seeing more.

You remain flexible in your plans and destination. This attitude will serve you well. Good videos!

On your stern pulpit on the port side just before the lifelines run forward there is a round circle it looks like stainless steel which sometimes has a white object in
    it what is that ?

  • Cousin Jack

Nice video; thanks. Why would you be chased away if you anchored in Tarifa?

So happy to be here from the start, would love a little tour of beautiful Safar if you find a peaceful moment to do it.

  • Hugh Burgess

Really nice video and record of Safari’s performance. Great achievement making it to Gibraltar and not an Orca in sight! ⛵️

  • Jorge Lopez Segura

Before you changed the course.. I tought you decided to make it round the world in twelve chapters… hehehe

  • Tim Fish

    Going to the Caribbean? 😬

Well done for another great and honest video. I love the boat and am curious to see a Saga 36 in action especially as Pat Lawless is racing one against Rustlers and Biscays ( in the GGR) to good effect. Also good to see the Aries vane gear doing a great job. I love those units and not really sure why the GGR’s are nearly entirely Hydrovanes….🤔. Keep it up I really hope you succeed with your channel, it’s certainly 👍 from me 👏👏

Sorry I'm late to the party 🎉. So what type of food do you cook when you're out at sea and why to did the police take you away.

That is a very pretty boat and she goes well. Good decision to go back to the Med and didn't you have some good sailing – Take Care

  • Alves Sail

Great decision making. A pro. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Great episode! The flexibility of your journey makes viewing interesting. Love the high shots above the stern. The Saltrams must be the quietest boats at anchor as there is no annoying wave slap on the stern.

Good stuff. Thanks for verbalizing your thought processes. Very insightful for us wanna be / will be some dayers!

  • Ronald Schenkel

Sometimes it’s best to change plans. Happens to me quite often.

Great Bootspeed, she loves to go fast. Wenn I sailed her from Gibraltar to the IJselmeer I was doing up to 10 knotes.

Just a great Boot, but I am jusmentel, I have a Saltram Saga 40 😉 . Love your Video.

  • robmcg5

Great to finally have a channel with a Saltram 💪. They seem to be few and far between. You seem to be getting the best out of Safar. We have a Saltram 40 and would love to follow in your footsteps 👍.

    Great adventure bro! New subscriber!
What and where were you taken by police for?
I'm leaving the UK for the Med at the end of February… Need some freedom and don't want to leave one prison country for another!!
