I would like to add two more.

The latest C-Map charts used in chart plotters also have satellite overlays. Last winter when I sailed the Saudi coast from Duba to Yanbu, and then in Egypt I was really happy with my B&G plotter with those charts. PS I also have Open CPM with satellite overlays but not a forward-looking sonar - which after seeing this is on my shopping list.

When going into reefs there is also age old the technique of "eyeballing" to be used. We ALWAYS have one person standing on the bow, or up the mast with a handheld VHF communicating with the helmsman. That is also why you always have to get into reefs early in the afternoon while the sun is still illuminating the bottom. Even earlier when going into an eastern shore (Sudanese/Egyptian side of the Red Sea) as the sun is moving to the west.

The forward looking sonar is great! But I’d be reluctant to trust the accuracy of the GPS signal even with the overlays.
