O yeah, so true, it's not as glamorous as youtube, and more horrifying then expected. However, I think having good quality equment makes a big difference. If you go cheap or half ass your prep and gear, cruising is terrible. If your gear is good, it's much less terrifying, but still stressful. Even something as simple as anchoring and sleeping is stressful. Is somebody going to drag into you, is your anchor going to hold, is the tide going down? It's stressful. But I still want to do it. Something must be wrong with me.

Great content Chris, always like to hear the true experience out on the water. The YouTubers don't always pass on all these bad things that can go wrong even in just a short cruise.

My first trip was anchoring in the ICW where was well protected and I still had to tame my mind worrying about dragging. And yes hearing every new sound you run around the boat wanting to identify exactly what you heard. I'm sure over time you get more comfortable and you get familiar with your vessel and become more in tune with it.

After what happened to Troy in Granada, I spend a bit of time researching how different people created their own mooring ball for long term parking.
(Then use the launch to get to the marina). But it's not easy nor as convenient.
Plus, you're in a different country and they may have something to say about you dropping "debris" on their sea floor. Plus, the marinas would not like the competition.

Without sailing experience, it's virtually impossible to get a feel for current speed.
The only experience I have is being pulled into the open water by a riptide.
The engine, it appears, is critical. Better be well maintained.
