I believe those valves sound very noisy. May need to do the top side. Head gasket, and have the valves adjusted.

The thing about owning a second hand boat is you get to fix all the things the previous owner never got round to. That said if you always fix each issue properly and permanently. Eventually you can just go sailing. Or at least I think that’s how it’s supposed to work. I have never found out for sure as I always sold the boat before that point was reached.

A retired marine engineer told me a trick to bleed a diesel. Crack open one of the injector pipes just a bit and crank the engine. It may fire and you will need to close the pipe again which obviously needs care on a running engine. But it works and is a quick hack if you are needing to get the engine going quickly.
