Good sail! ships are buggers these days, nobody looks out the windows, they just stare at the radar. speaking of radar, squalls show up really well on radar, it's well worth using it at night. I learnt that lesson when i met my first tropical squall, broken boom and genoa split in half Keep on crusing guys!

Wow! Lots of excitement this episode! Do you think you need to practice dropping the main and furling the jib/ screecher in emergencies? Especially for night crossings? Plus, I was thinking about when you are approaching or navigating near land, you don't always have to have ALL the square ft. of dagger boards and rudder down. You should be able to maintain good steerage with only 2-3ft. of dagger boards down and 3ft of rudder. And considering you gear wear and tear. I'd be inclined to only run one centre board down at a time in night sailing, thereby reducing the risk of hitting containers. Same for the rudder. If practicing this If you have the port dagger board down then have the starboard rudder down and port rudder up (mostly). this should give the largest mechanical leverage over the port dagger board when needing to steer. This means that you will not be using these lines as often and will help reduce the wear and tear on the lines that operate these functions (when. it rains help funnel water into these channels and cavities where the lines are running and covered. Also, a good rain should never go unused. Grab a soft bristled broom and get out onto the decks and roof top and wash them down. It is a good opportunity for the rain to help soak and dissolve all the salt in the sails and wash it away. Get all your lines/sheets out of bins and get them on the floor and fully soaked as much as possible to help stop the wear and break down of fibres due to salt. It may make life a little uncomfortable (being out in the rain for a bit), but all rain is good! Once the decks are wash you can then capture some of the run off.

Hope this helps. Fair and following for your travels!
