The Glacial End Moraine was mined for Coal and Clay by the Ancients And the Sand Stone Slabs were used to build the Ancient City on top , The remainder of the material from the mining were used to Build the Largest Mound remaining in North America Documented in the 1800's as Hopewell then Documented in the 1914 archaeological atlas of Ohio as Adena , Both documents were mistaken , the ancient site's Giant Mound is over 20,000 years old, and twice the size of Monks Mound Cahokia !

Since you opened the door… Trump wasn't saying that slavery and what some US founders did in practice was A-OK. Not by a long shot. Some of them abhorred slavery, John Adams, for example.

Trump was pushing back against a US-leftwing propensity for framing the United States' founding exclusively on slavery. The "1619 Project" is a recent example, where slavery has been reimagined as THE founding principle, while insisting the date of the founding be pushed all the way back to 1619! It's historically false and, as you suggested, in the here and now, politically motivated. He was pushing back against the same propensity for seeing the USA as the root of all evil. It's a meme here in leftwing circles. It's no coincidence that chants of "USA! USA!" in our US congress, when they occur, come almost exclusively from the right side of the aisle.
And not to go all whataboutism, but the US did end the importation of Black Africans in the first decade of the 19th century, and it did end slavery after a costly civil war. The Republican Party, the Party of Lincoln, wasn't called the Emancipation Party for nothing.

I don't defend Trump here because I think everything he says and does is A-OK, but there is a gray area that politics finds a way to ignore or manipulate for expediency.

I certainly hope Britain doesn't disintegrate over time because of its colonial abuses of the Congo, or countless other historical atrocities. Heritage is a tricky thing, but we keep moving forward.

Tomorrow I will be standing in a field in the pouring rain surveying a likely Neolithic enclosure with a group of dedicated volunteers. Archaeology in the UK carries on. The grassroots battered and bruised continues in its dedicated way.
Meanwhile the profession is in a truly perilous state. Exactly where the Govt wants it. We are under attack and we must learn from 2022. As we have no leaders, no Mick Lynch's, no single body and infested by by self serving self appointed individuals only too happy to kiss the right wing backside. We have an extremely tough time ahead.
