And talking about barefoot activity, do you remember back in 1963 before his assassination, JFK introduced the idea of doing 50 miles, not kilometers, walking for the youth of the day. Claiming they weren't getting enough exercise. This before Couch potatoes was a thing. One of my school mates did it barefoot. Yep the whole distance. And having lived through 76 summers myself, I still walk around barefoot. Until frost appears. I mean, why not?? And yeah you'd think at my age, walking through clover when bees are active would be a bad idea. Yes it is,and yes I get zapped. Moving on…thanks again for the upload. Thanks for sharing. I walked barefoot 5 miles every day for a week down the beach in sand for exercise, develop a killer case of plantar faciitis. Guess I reached some magical age 🙂 Maybe I should've done it in a more exotic setting. Good on you guys, happy to be following your travels!

Hey Cruising Kiwis,

Thanks for the episode and giving a history lesson about the volcanic activity. I always thought that the Krakatoa eruption caused the “year without summer” in Europe. Thanks Rachel for doing research about it and passing it on as a homeschool teacher. You’re doing a fantastic job for your boys and us viewers.

As for walking barefooted: In the summer I like walking with no shoes on for most of the time as a mindfulness exercise. I had no idea of that it also was being physically beneficial. It snowed a lot here in Belgium so after watching this video I took off my shoes and went for a walk in the snow. Painful in the first 10 minutes but so satisfying at the end of a 20 minute walk when I got home again.
