Looks like you may be able to remain in Shengen longer if you are crew of a ship. You are 'in-transit'. That's what i am looking into. Crew in merchant shipping get stamped-in to countries but stamped-out after joining their ship so I have been told. It does not matter what size ship. Presumably anyone working in shipping would burn up all of their allowance very quickly if this was not possible.
