If you run the solar panels in series you get less loss in the wire and since the voltage out of the panel varies with the amount of light you will get more power with less light. Yes you may lose some to shadows, but getting power sooner usually more than makes up for the shadow loss.

Instead of electrical tape use marine grade shrink sleeve. It has sealant that seals when you shrink it. 🙂

You must not run mast head and deck level navigation lights at the same time. On a boat your size it should be low level only.
