One can buy it in several brand names and concentrations as a mould-killer from swimming pool supplies or hardware stores. Not cheap but four litres of the concentrate lasts decades when used every six months. Furthermore, It us used in medicine as an antiseptic on wounds too–so it is SAFE.

I do not use chlorine, and I do not use vinegar because it is both an electrolyte and it is corrosive. I used to use vinegar to kill mold spores on timber, but no longer. The acetate salts it produces suck up water and then dissolve in that water and soak into the timbers. I do use vinegar sparingly on table-tops and shelving but only where I can be certain to wipe it all off afterwards using a sponge with a little baking soda solution.. The good thing about vinegar is it costs very little.
