20 years ago I spent a week looking after a friend with a spinal injury in a hospital in Nah Trang – the conditions were pretty terrible, staff very poorly paid and no nursing care (relatives fed and nursed patients). The hospital was full of motorbike casualties. And rats. I am sure it is better now – but despite the incredible generosity and kindness of the vietnamese I met at the hospital I was sure grateful to be air-lifted to honk kong – after a few days stopover in a French hospital in Ho chi minh. Wonderful country – such a relief to see how far they have come since I was there.

Loved this video. The landscapes are amazing in North Vietnam.
Re bike riding- I did a population health study for the development of a hospital in north Vietnam. The highest cause of death and injury is road accidents and of course motor bikes at the top of the list. But this is also common for Thailand and Laos.

Nick – these bike videos have an Anthony Bourdain quality about them. You're not as dark as he could be, but the earnestness, how you observe and comment, and the spirit of wanting to see and experience different places – it was all part of his magic. Maybe you should be doing travelogues!
