  1. Whether one’s concern is floating logs in the northwest, floating cargo containers , whale strikes or ice flows aluminum hull with bulkheads gives the peace of mind unmatched by any other material.

  2. The only disappointing thing is that you only do one video a month, I wish you do one or more videos a week AND PLEASE make them longer 🙏 ❤ Thanks a million in advance and kindest regards 😊.
    ✌❤🍀

  3. Our new adopted boat is coming along nicely. How exciting! We love every minute of the videos. Can't wait to see the interior. Soon it will be time to decide on the paint scheme. Whatever you choose will be beautiful, but it IS hard to beat traditional navy and white.

  4. Three rudders! Assuming all three are interconnected, that means you always have two in the water even when heeled. So apart from directional thrust under power, does the builder make any claims about performance under sail using this system? Wonderful quality aluminium work by those Dutch builders too!

  5. With the ever increasing variety of boats being created, my fantasy boat would be a mono hull motorsailer with two masts (ketch rigged) and a water line of 65 feet ([8 squared] 64 x 1.333 for a hull speed of 10.667 kts) with a diesel engine (with two high capacity alternators) that is reliable, has worldwide parts availability, and can efficiently move the boat at nine (9) kts; and an over all length of perhaps 68 to 70'. It would have fuel to motor at least fifteen hundred miles. More refrigeration for food than the law allows (at least 20 cu. ft of 40 degree Fahrenheit volume and 15 cu. ft. of freezer volume) and a galley that a chef would envy. A place for a tender of 14'. Three staterooms and at least two heads with dry showers. Six foot six inch (6' 6") head room every where and an insulated (both thermal and sound) hull; and A/C in all enclosed spaces. Add in solar panels, lithium iron battery bank (with a twenty four (24) hour capacity at maximum load, and all the rectifiers/controllers which would be needed.

As to the hull material, the three that come to mind are fiberglass, aluminum, and steel. I would also want a protected rudder and propeller design.

But in reality I will never buy a boat and live on it. So thank you for putting out these wonderful videos that you do, so that I can vicariously share some aspects of what you do.

  6. The Toronto Boat show sucked big time only 2 I repeat 2 decent sailboats were at the show. Who ever is in charge of organizing the Toronto Boat show needs to put more effort into getting large sailboats into the show. Just a big disappointment to much $$$ especially if that was the reason for traveling to Toronto only to see 2 sailboats at the show 👎👎👎👎👎

  7. Distant Shores. If I would get in Sailing the Aluminum Sailboat ⛵ May be the way . I will wait to see them Paint and Protect your Sailboat. Just to old to teach a old Dog New Tricks in learning to Sail. But I make a great sailor to mop the Deck and do Dishes. Gory peace be With You

  8. I may considering an aluminum boat after your videos. I have aluminum water and fuel tanks on my Saga that had to be replaced after twenty years. The inside bottoms pitted to the point of leaking. Not sure why.

  9. What a process! It will be so cool to see the new Distant Shores when she splashes. I wonder, will you bring her to Annapolis this coming October?

  10. Dear Paul! I have ver little sailing experience! Don't get me wrong but personally two helm? Do you need it exposing expensive staff for wild weather? Is it possible single helm and close cockpit just like a car! But open and close all windows with electric system! Roof window too? Where is the swimming platform also fishing ,BBQ,small kitchen and where is helm maybe good for common use? Just idea because where we live because of ozone expose the sun, rain and strong wind develop different opinion! When I look very expensive boats first start seen Beminni and Davit system looks like add it later on and looking very messy or not cool? or should be better way! sorry be negatif! boat looking awesome! I reckon, Dutch! They know what they are doing! She already looks awesome! Thank you all!

  11. Aluminium is amazing but the future must be a steinless steel as spacex and tesla are sgowing the use of this type of material in new way and this material is imune to corozion and will last for 100 years easy

  12. Aluminium ist just the best 100% recyclable not a platform of swimming toxic micro plastic spewing trash… When done right it is possible to realize a non toxic no degassing materials interior. Guess mine would get an ocean-volt drive chain plus a fisher panda back up as soon as there are recyclable solid state batteries available. But guess I just die poor to enable those joys for others some just have to be sorted out.

  13. Thanks for the great videos as always! Glad to see how the boat is going and looking forward to future episodes. Thanks for keeping the videos relatively short.

  14. Aluminium is great. We have a 50ft aluminium diesel/electric hybrid. It is light, fast and best of all cool in hot weather. Corrosion is an issue with all boats and we've had issues after a rock strike in a storm where we couldn't pull the boat out for repairs for some months. The lead & the aluminium in the keel don't get along. Big job to fix it but not totally unexpected with over 9ft of draft. She's fine now. Wouldn't buy fibreglass or carbon in a warm climate like in the equatorial regions.

  15. To create that custom boat is a lot of man hours, in spite of machinery. How much more expensive is it compared to a GRP production boat with the same size etc? If taken care of, it'll last for generations.

  16. This is exciting. Congratulations on such a fine vessel.

I am interested in how the hull interior will be treated for corrosion. My only reference for that much aluminum is small aircraft.

  17. Fascinating and mind-blowing. The sheer magnitude of skilled labor from concept to splash. Kudos to each and every contributor. During the electrical fit-out, please include lightning protection discussion, your thoughts, and preventative measures, if any. Thanks for sharing.

  18. it's absolutely gorgeous, I think that aluminium is the way to go if you are sailing worldwide, unfortunately unless I find a good used aluminium boat I will have to settle for fiberglass, watching your sailboat come to life is amazing, it must be sucha treat!

  19. I have an aluminium hulled Koopmans 35 from 1982. The only corrosion is from some standing water, and dissimilar metals from the bolts holding down the wooden deck. I chose aluminium over GRP after working in the marine industry, all the boats meant to last were aluminium.

  20. Looks fantastic. Curious to see more detail on how the ballast and keel box assembly works. The craftsmanship is amazing. I love all the radiuses on all the corners in the cockpit. She will be a solid boat.

  21. Have y'all thought about internet connectivity, will you go with a more traditional satellite system or with Starlink? Big news today on eSysman's channel regarding Starlink and yachting….

  22. I hope when you get in your new boat you will make regular videos, really miss you guys and the quality work and life you live. Miss you guys,God bless 💝
