If you have a barbed fishing hook heat it up and straighten it out. Take the hook with the barb facing the notches of the key and push it into the key slot far enough to set the barb onto the notches and then snag it as you pull the hook out. If you don't have a small enough hook because it is salt water fish you'd be after. Try to put a barb on a safety pin ( diaper pin ) or sewing needle and then go ahead and fish it out. I don't know how good you are with super / crazy glue but if the piece mate well with each other and you can put the tiniest amount on the key. Insert it and make sure you don't glue it to the barrel. The key is probably non-ferrous metal so don't waist time with a magnet .

I began borrowing cars
when I was just 13,
back before steerings locked
and pesky alarm system things.
We'd sneak in at midnight,
pop a lock&roll her back,
quietly push her down the street
before completing our hack.
With paperclip on HOT
and wrapped once round the coil,
then just a kiss on the starter
and POOF: the engine'd boil.
Off to the beach
with bait, poles & beer.
And round 4am
we'd come home with much fear:
"Did they catch us?"
"Will cops snatch us?"
"Or are we in the clear?"
We'd then wash her and wax her,
and tank the top up (hic).
Then drop off Doug & Pete
a block down the street,
and cruise down the street
then cut the engine&PRAY!
Like an old school video game
I mastered as a punk drunk young boy;
cruising up hill into a driveway
without a whisper of engine noise.
Then I'd lock her&leave her
full, shiny and clean.
Imagine the confusion
to the owner in the morning!
"Smells a bit like fish,
but she's full, washed&waxed?!
Not sure if I want to shoot them,
or invite those brats back.

Too late for this crew but good to know for future crew: when falling off the back of a wave, give the helm a good shove to oort then stbd. Them at the bow, or anyone on their feet, will greatly appreciate it. The larger the wave, the better. You're welcome.
