So your alternator is bad and you think that is bad enough to go all the way back to Miami motoring most of the way? WTF. Find someone with a gear puller and yank that pull off and put it on your spare alternator!

Hi. Wow lots of drama. I am glad your ok and you got the outboard going.
I think a good set of quality tools would come in handy. Wouldn't hurt to have a extra alternator, one with the right pulley. It would be a easy to replace. Replace the belts with new ones. Keep the old ones as spares. Just a thought. You rely on your charging system.
You must have a Diesel engine?, they require no electricity to run. Need power to turn the starter.

Learn as you go. Keep it up. You had other good options rather than sailing back to Miami. There are so many sailors with the tools, parts and skills eager to help other sailors, especially in a place like George Town. Also, you can have parts flown in much cheaper than what it cost you to sail back. Also, don't ever swim against the gulfstream as you were trying to get back to Miami. You're ALWAYS better off to spend the last amount of time in the current as possible, which means sailing perpendicular to the current.

Do you have a dc to dc charger between the alternator and the battery bank to limit the current the batteries will draw from the alternator?
