You managed to put into words most of the thoughts we all share. I've been wanting to sail a singlehanded transat since I was a small boy . I'm now 53 and with time I have réalised that without a sound basic budget/ reserve or someone who can bail you out financially when you get stuck with no choice but to pay for a service or expensive parts then the dream rapidly loses it's charm . Look how many European boats up for sale in Caribbean or other harbours half way around the world( la réunion etc). Often the reason is the money ran out and the boat couldn't move on without a few expensive but necessary repairs.
Once my daughter finishes her degree in 5 years time then financially I may be in better shape to turn my dream to reality.
Meantime singlehanded sailing during my holiday time suits me fine and is good experience !
Your thoughts and ramblings are good to listen to and a good sounding base for those who want to do similar.

So cool to hear you speak of Kirsten. I am following her also.......too many times a day checking her progress and what an inspiration she is. I bought a small dingy sailboat when the race GGR 2022 started, figuring before i get to old i should learn. You raise some very good questions and i am confident you will figure it all out. You can do this all in good time! Hang in there! To the ocean and return.

Take a look at Wind Hippy and sailing Oceans. They like old sea dog have been sailing solo for many years as well as living on the boat.

Solo sailing is great if your used to being alone for weeks on end. My biggest fear is being ill . If you are sailing alone I would advise to sail with other boats. That way you are safer and still enjoy solo sailing. You’re obviously more capable than most, slow but steady.
