Currently the wind gusts of 40 to 50 knots and heavy sea state favor Malizia. Holcim PCB are very close and a change to lighter conditions can give them a boost. The rear guards are going as fast as is reasonably possible. A doldrum patch or two could allow them to narrow the gap. Last 2 days may surprise.

Now that we have drone footage in a range of swell and wind speed/direction, it has become clear there is a unique factor beyond the crew why SeaExplorer is fastest to date (remember they’ve had to fix a busted bit). And, that’s how it keeps the bow out of the water more consistently without it rising too much. As a result, it will be having fewer brief episodes of sudden slowing. Just this difference alone is a race winner.

Without the VR65 boats the competition lost its magic, these new IMOCA boats are boring, the sailor won't even get wet, there's autopilot… Shame…

Malizia seem to have the balance right with the cabin height for crew comfort and the high bow for this type of racing. Some of the boats look like the science has forgotten the humans involved.
