Yay! This was really interesting! I have a canal-boating friend from the Netherlands and now you have added to my interest from a tourism point of view. Your logic with solar panels is also intriguing; I'd never thought of the interference from light from under the panel.

You must buy ac/dc tig welder so you can weld also aluminum if needed. I once bought one my self and learned to weld aluminum from YouTube videos only

Zelfs voor een Hollander is het nog informatief over het Markermeer en het IJselmeer te horen. Soms vergeet je hoe mooi de afsluitdijk is gemaakt. Dat lassen is niet moeilijk mig lassen is zo makkelijk en kan ook met rvs. Neem geen buizen met een wanddikte onder de twee mm. Dun wandige buizen lassen is wel moeilijk. Veel succes met al je projecten

Very nice story about sailing waters that I've sailed several times as a tourist on one of the flat bottom boats that can be chartered on the Ijsselmeer/Markermeer and the wadden sea (which, btw, I highly recommend to anyone who isn't a sailor themselves but wants to go sailing with a group of friends. I heve been do Terschelling once and sailed the area six times – this autumn will be the seventh.
You have my respect for learning to weld! I love this way of approaching a challenge.
My question is, however: what do you think of the flexible solar panels that can be glued on the roof and can be stepped on? It might have saved you the whole welding effort …
