  2. I spent a night at anchor at Totland Bay last summer and it was just a mess of rolling all night. I'll skip it next time I up that way but the beach was very nice with the dog and kids so worth a stop over. In a South Easterly it may be fine.

  3. I watched every episode of flipper when i was a kid and that dolphin was trying to warn you about toxic waste being dumped in the cove 😯

  4. I would jumped straight in with that dolphin! Rare to see them by themselves. Good work look forward to the next video 👍🏻

  5. That wasnt you getting towed after mechanical probs to poole harbour today was it😁 I remember you said somefhing about scooting off this weekend. Sorry i couldnt get down for a beer i was stuck doing solar gear. If youre back here sometime ill be sure to get down

  6. I wish I had the bottle to head into the open sea by myself 100% respect to you I have a 16 ft speed boat and I get the willies even hitching it onto the car 😂lovely video

  7. You are doing great! Totland to Weymouth is quite a passage for a coastal sailor just starting out! With regard to the main. It is possible to raise it when sailing downwind although not ideal. Go on broad to beam reach ‘bream reach’ Topping lift on. Kicker right off. Trice the boom up high (25 degrees at least). This will de power the sail as you raise it. You might get the whole thing raised if you are lucky but even if only part will be better than nothing. You could also see if she will heave to by backing the jib and lashing the boom to leeward temporarily. It might calm the motion sufficiently for you to get some main up using same method just described. Be careful though as being on deck in rolly conditions offshore is risky and requires vigilance. If in ANY doubt don’t do it. Really liking the videos thanks 🙂

  8. 15:40 pull on some kicking strap to take out most (not all) of that of that massive twist in the mainsail then let the boom out.

  9. Just love watching your progress, but I feel so nervous for you at times. You're a brave guy. Take care, good luck and good sailing

  10. Wahoo! Loving your channel. I too bought a boat (last summer) with no experience at all( probably less knowledge than you😅)BUT I’m doing it. Still not ready to do it in my own but your vids are adding to my motivation. Thanks

  11. You're doing well. What happens when you get to the experienced sailor stage, does the channel name change? I owned an Invicta 26, similar to the Contessa. It had a Quantock QME plywood windvane, steered me maybe 2000 miles. Happy sailing.

  12. ROLL THINTRO
    Well done, great achievement!
Keep up your reading, learning and sail training 👌the more you practice the easier and more effective your skills will become. If your staying on the long pontoon for a bit, keep practicing, you’ll get to be faster and most importantly be safer for it.
One of the most important lessons to learn on a yacht of any size, is how to “Heave To” ….. I.e. stop the boat!
it’s very simple to do and buys you time to rest, sort a problem out etc.
Yachts can respond differently when you Heave to, based on size, amount of canvas up, wind and tide, keel type etc etc, it would be good for you to know how to do it as an” instant second nature thing” or as you would say thingy 😂
Really enjoying your vids and being with you on your journey 😃👍

  13. Didn’t stuff anything. I seen only toady, sailors with 30plus years experience, bump two boats trying to dock. Every mistake you think you make has been made by experienced sailors. I’m sailing 3 years, I see every it ever week. So the next time you don’t get it first time, remember there’s someone watching, saying thank folk I’m not the only one that did that.
