I put a Stainless Steel Carabiner on the end of the painter line and clip it to the railing. then cleat it off when towing.

You guys must be living right! Wonder if an Apple tag or some similar thing would help. You probably retraced your course from your chart plotter but, much longer and it sure would have been hard to find.
