Hi Patrick, it sounds like the alternator belt is slipping, if the batteries are low and putting a heavy load on, it could slip if it needed a bit of a tighten, worth checking out before buying an new unit?

I just came down with the flu thank heavens i had my flu needle. Very bad aches and pains. About the belt you need to measure the depth and width of the pulleys. Then check the belt.

That noise from the alternator sounded like a belt slipping rather than a bearing.
