On My Beneteau Oceanis 350 I created a manifold like you have after the sea strainer, with Ball valves for the engine, pressure Fresh water, bilge run, used pair of stockings as a strainer, I can back wash my thruhull can run my engine on fresh water and leave that in the heat exchanger overnight, or bring to bear the engine as a bilge pump in an emergency. Rinsing the engine with fresh water limits the growth and the corrosion in the elbow.. Just a thought..
