1. So excited to find you site. I am a new sailor in Seattle wash with grand ideas of expanding the African American sailing community here. You guys are an inspiration.

  2. Shared this to everyone I communicate with. This is the type of positive luxury activities I want see made. Black people doing cool and positive things that show us as complex and diverse people. Great content.

  3. @39:50 The comment that the woman wearing the polo shirt that says President said that a minority person would not just stop at a yacht club " oh I wonder what they're doing on a Saturday. hmmmmm That is EXACTLY what I did. HAHAHAHA I moved to Virginia near the Potomac, and I searched for sailing clubs in the area, and I went to their social sail activity one day. I was and still is one of two black people in the club. I joined the club and became a skipper!! 🙂 That was a very generalized comment that she made. AND I'm not Baptist. haha Great program though. Happy to see fellow Black Sailors. Oh I race too… plus coach/volunteer at the Special Olympics. I'm just getting started…. eh. It's a beautiful hobby!!! Love it.

  4. I want and need to do my part…I’m a full time liveaboard cruiser from Hutchison Island out of Ft Pierce Florida. I was introduced to the life 2 years ago while on tour with Nelly and Snoop Dogg. I’m the youngest black man in the area, I’ve been searching for a black community like this to be a part of in Florida.

    Thank you for posting this…

  5. I can see this marina from my living room window just across the golf course. I want to learn how to sail and will be looking to take lessons soon. I'm glad I found this video!

  6. Black black black , sigh do you have a personality of your own ? Nobody cares what color you are anymore ,try making a sailing video about how YOU sail .

  7. Granddaughter of Commodore Frank A. Garner here… remember the club so well, found my peace there. Thank you for bringing the club and its rich Chicago history to this platform 💝

  8. I grew up in Chicago and visited all of the beaches from the Northside to the Eastside daily! I've been on a lot of different kinds of boats, but sailboats have never done it for me! I must do this before I leave this earth!

  9. "long periods of boredom interrupted by terror"! I cracked up when she described sailing like this mainly because that is my experience as well, lololol. I just never felt like I could admit it!

  10. I didn't know sailing, was a race thing. Sailing is sailing. I grew up south philly. Now I'm refitting my second boat. Anyone wanna help lol, I'm in Va near deltaville

  11. The first time I watched this video, about a year ago, I knew nothing about sailing. This time I’m watching as brand new licensed sailor, and member of a yacht club. I don’t say that to be pretentious. I say that because I can’t believe it. How easy it was and maybe more importantly how enjoyable it is. People are nice and inviting and sailing is amazing.

  12. My fiancee and I were guests at Jackson Park Yacht Club when we sailed the Great Loop. The members were extremely hospitable and helped us get around town, ship our mast, and have a safe place to stay while we waited for the lock canal to reopen. We gave a talk to the club about our sailing trip and went to a few seminars they held as well. They also held a vigil for Mr. Pinkney during our stay. Notable members were Carmen Holland (our main host), Pam Rice, and Marlon Harvey (who was serving as Commodore at the time).

  13. I've been on my sailing journey for a couple of years now. A New Yorker living in Australia. I can't believe this video is a couple of years old and I'm just seeing it
