If the captain was having that much trouble leaving the dog why didn't he stop and assess the situation before causing more damage to the vessel.

The yacht makers are not good at systems integration and redundancy. It all works great in optimal situations, but no one thinks to check/test how it handles when systems are offline/faulty, especially in combinations. The industry could learn some stuff from aviation imo: Fault detection with checklists and counter measures, easy coordinated fallback to secondary systems/manual modes, immediate technical/situational support available over radio. The captain is basically taking on a lot of risk because he is in reality running a one of a kind prototype, as if it was a well tested and finished machine.

Hard to fathom why Superyachts don't have a manual override of the computer controls. Aircraft with autopilot simply switch it off if it becomes suspect, and the pilots fly manually. Definitely thrust equipment on this yacht that is not behaving as it should. Cheers.
